MANAGING RESOURCES

Lean is a process that concentrates on identifying and eliminating waste in operations in order to increase efficiency. For this project, we really wanted to optimize the process of recycling the clothes to gain time, and maximize the transit of clothes with the diminution of the 3M’s, the waste, whilst all of the resources are managed. Our main key points are the recycling of the clothes, the help brought to children thanks to our concept and the association we partnered up with and the installation of machines to check the quality of the clothes.

| DESIGNING LEAN OPERATIONS
Lean is a long term process that concentrates on identifying and eliminating waste in operations (production, service, and administration) in order to increase efficiency.

We are willing to create machines with the purpose of being an electronic information point. This creation will help children to choose which clothes can be donated.

In the first part, we are trying to reduce the 3M’s. The Muda describes activities or decisions that do not add value. The Mura describes unevenness in a ‘system’ or inconsistency in the operations and the Muri describes an overburdening/overuse of resources (people or machines). To reduce the 3Ms, we paid attention to the satisfaction of the customer, it has to be simple, without generating costs. Here is the process of the use of the machine.

The goal here is to pay attention to the 7 types of waste : motion, overproduction, movement, inventory, poor processing, waiting, defects.
To solve this, we chose the simplest technique possible and so a machine that will encourage people to avoid this waste.

| APPLYING LEAN IN SERVICES

Implementing a new system isn’t always easy to organize. Relying on the lean method, we observe that we need to search for a technique at the arrival of the clothes, located at the exit of the machine. To do so, we are going to base ourselves on the 5S method.

â–ªSeiri (Sort): Eliminate unnecessary items (remove items not linked with the machine)

â–ªSeiton (straighten): position things properly (create categories : recycled or not)

â–ªSeiso (shine): keep things clean and shiny (employ an employee, a maid)

â–ªSeiketsu (standardize): maintain order and neatness (maid, + Tape à l'Oeil is employing employees based on their rigor)

â–ªShitsuki (sustain): develop a commitment and pride in maintaining standards ( principle of a sheet of paper for the employee to write the hour they arrived and the hour they left the local)
